Tomorrow is my last day volunteering at Golden Rule for a little while. While I wish I could remain steadfast as their Friday shop girl, my three part-time jobs are taking more time than I have to give.
I am so happy to have been able to have participated in such an incredible and challenging project and have to issue a small plea for its continued support from everyone and anyone who might read this.
Despite putting out a wildly diverse array of art and stunning lookbooks every month, showcasing local talent and doing incredible community building, the space is teetering on the brink between being able to remain a brick-and-mortar store and having to investigate other options.
Aside from Golden Rule's value as an independent shop / gallery in a world where such businesses are increasingly endangered, the community surrounding the physical space is filled with kind-hearted, driven and talented individuals who deserve to keep on keepin'-on but can't do it without external support.
This month's theme is White Magic. The space is filled with wonderful summery light clothing. I'll be wearing my favorite Tracy Reese dress – a white lace confection probably better suited for a wedding than a volunteer shopgirl shift. Then again, I rather like overdressing.
Nikki the cat provided a perfect foil to the textile art in the space last week.
